If you're a Soledad Miranda fan, you
have to add this new Shriek Show DVD to
your collection.
She doesn't have a big role in the
production (even though she leads the
credits on the back of the jacket). But
the supplement does her justice.
It includes a recent interview with
Director Jesus "Jess" Franco and an
entire section of that is dedicated to her.
This includes not only a few of his
memories, but a decent lobby-card
slide show. It includes stills from a few
of her films, including "Vampyros Lesbos
(1971). She died Aug. 18, 1970 in a
vehicle accident. She was 27.
The interview with Franco is fun to
watch for other reasons. While he smokes,
the 74-year-old Spaniard offers up his
uncensored views of censorship.
The film is another one of Franco's
journeys into strip clubs and lesbian
lust.
Great stuff!
According to Lucas Balbo, co-writer of
"Obsession, The Films of Jess Franco," this
is a "lost film" and has been unavailable on
video until now.
The actress in the lead is Diana Lorys.
A brunette, she plays a stripper at a second
rate club who falls for a blonde, Collette
Jack, then into trouble.
What follows is a story about murder,
hypnosis and domination, told with counter
culture artistry.
It's not widescreen, but Shriek Show
wraps it all up in a decent package you can
impress your friends with at your next
psychedelic sex party.
