No shock ending this time out.
But it's a hell of a lot more watchable than the original "Sleepaway Camp (1983)."
"Angela" is now played by rock icon Bruce Springsteen's sister, Pamela. She got a sex change, a ticket out of the booby hatch and a job at a summer camp.
On the outside she's the quintessential Christian camp counselor who lives every minute of the day promoting innocent summer camp fun, from arts and crafts, to camping out, to singing songs at breakfast. Springsteen even does a number. But wait, this gets better.
On the inside, and in the shadows of the camp, she's a psychopath bent on "sending home" any camper who violates that innocence. And she dishes it out not only with knives, but with anything she can get her hands on.
What's neat about the film, however, is its sense of humor. Honestly, you could probably call the film a horror comedy. It doesn't take itself too seriously. At the same time, the makers of the film poke fun at a number of slasher film conventions.
In slasher films, the kills have to be unique. In this film, it seems like Angela is well aware of this.
There's a funny scene where she's in a cabin and she's debating about what to kill an unsuspecting camper with. A pen? A hair brush? No. Then she sees her guitar. Nobody's even been killed with a guitar string before (at least not that I recall). So she plucks one and goes to work.
Another scene has two campers dressing up as characters from other horror films to scare Angela. But, obviously being aware of the genre too, Angela scares them by dressing up as another, "Leatherface."
Perverts will love it too. The girls are hot and there's more than enough boob shots.
The film also recognizes the fact that boob fiends love horror films. There's a scene where two teenage boys are snapping photos from the window of the girls' cabin. And they get some good shots.
"Sleepaway Camp II" isn't a classic, but you won't be sorry you popped it in your video player. I'm sure "The Boss" even watches it now and then for shits and giggles.
